kkjy P&D with 3090 x 2048 scan for free? where is the shop located and what"s the name ar? Any more shops having such service recommend? |

Honestly 3090x2048 is ok to me. I just don"t want to have scan with only 3M pixel or less. |

3090x2048(simply called 2000x3000)is 600 million pixels, the file size is 18MB tiff or around 4MB if saved to jpg.
600 million pixels is already the max resolution for 135 negative film. Use higher resolution mode to scan 135 film may be meaningless since it would magnify only the grain of the film but no more improve on the picture resolution. |

600 million pixels is already the max resolution for 135 negative film?
龍一 , I have never heard of this. Can you tell something more about this or post some articles about such topic? Questions come: 1.) Is there any pixel limit difference between different brand film. 2.) How positive performs? 3.) How you define "magnify only the grain of the film"? |

To my knowledge, the max resolution of 135 films is nearly 50M pixel. |

jsklee I see books that says over 40M pixel too. Is it true for all type 135 film or difference between negative and positive? |

positives offer higher resolution than negatives |

I regret that there was a typing error, 2000x3000ppi is 6 million pixels.
1)How fine is the grain(resolution) would also vary between different speed type of film, brand and type of film, the exposure condition, film processing quality, etc.
2)You are right, in case of same speed film type and both exposed in normal(not under or over exposed), the resolution of positive film is about 25% better than negative.
I didn"t see any article concerning the grain resolution of 135 negative and positive film becasue the figure of 6 million pixels and the idea of item 1 & 2 was told by one of my friend who was an Kodak Engineer.
Herein is the reason why I quite believed him that the grain resolution would be arround 6 million pixels:
a)If 50 million pixels is true, that means the best scanning quality of 135 film should be 5800x8700ppi, i.e.150MB tif file! I have never heard aboutthat any scanner can make a file for 135 film for this size even the extreme expensive drum scanner.
b)Could any people tell me how large a print made from a normal exposed 135 film would produce no obvious grain on it? Most people may say 8" x 12" is best and 10" x 15" is acceptable. It is because 250dpi printing resolution is the average sight resolution of human eyes at a suitable/reasonable viewing distance. Please divide 2000 x 3000ppi by 250dpi, you will get 8" x 12".
I would be very glad if you could offer a link related to this issue so that I can learn more and confirm everything black and white.
However, even 50 million pixels is correct, practically in consumer market, no one photofinishing shop would make a print for you with a 150MB tif file.
Please comment...

I do not have any friends which are working in Kodak or Fujifilm as Engineer, but I just wanna share my experience.
The Nikon 4000Ed could produce 133Mb TIFF file for a 135 film, although I don"t know whether any lab could output such a large file. |
