Lateral Chromatic Aberration (LCA) (called "purple fringing" by amateurs.) It's got some visible LCA at 18 mm and little to none at other focal lengths. You can fix this in PhotoShop CS2's Lens Correction filter as I explain at Fixing Lens Chromatic Aberrations. 18 mm: Moderate. Try a setting of +10 to +14 under "Red/Cyan" in CS2's Lens Correction Filter. Also try +5 for Red/Cyan and -6 for Blue/Yellow or just -12 for Blue/Yellow. See what works for you. 24 mm: Minimal. Leave it alone, or set Blue/Yellow to -5. 35 mm: None. 50 mm: None. 70 mm: None. 105 mm: None. 135 mm: None. 200 mm: Negligible secondary (green/magenta). Zoom The zoom ring looks very well cammed. This means equal rotation of the zoom ring gets you the same percentage change of focal length anyplace in the lens' range. This makes it easy to set your cropping and focal length at any setting. This is much better than the 18 - 70 for instance, whose wide-angle range is crammed together at one end making it difficult to set an exact wide angle on the 18 - 70. The 18 - 200 mm has markings at 18, 24, 35, 50, 70, 135 and 200 mm. Oddly, no marking at 105 mm. This is much better than the 18 - 70 比18-70mm要好. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18200.htm |

VR Nikon claims a new VR system with two modes. The Normal Mode compensates for random camera shake and includes panning and tripod detection. The Active Mode compensates for continuous vibration when shooting from a moving vehicle. Nikon claims four f/stops of improvement, wow! I love the VR in my 80 - 400 and this is a newer, smarter system. At 18mm 1/8 of a second is easy. 1/2 second is blurry. I can even get away at 1/8 out to about 100 mm!
