Sounds like a perfect storage/viewer but detracts most photographers because 8MP size limitation. In a year or two there'll be more newer cameras with 10MP or more pixels. I wouldn't buy one until Epson lifted the limitation.

Hard Drive Upgrade works

I replaced the 40G Hitachi drive in the Epson P-2000 with a Fujitsu 80G 5400 rpm drive using Hihiken's instructions and it seems to work fine (I just got it today).

ALL DONE. Much easier than I thought.

Try ModChip on PlayStation 2 or mod Panasonic Q .. Then you will know what I meant by easy.... Real easy...

Let make Easy for everyone.

Things Need

1) Mini Screw Driver +
2) Ghost (Partitioning Software)
3) 3.5 to 2.5 IDE Adapter (@ Compusa for $9)
4) Of course Hard Drive.

What to do.

1) Take out 8 screw (2 on each side of unit)
2) Pull out back panel.
3) Pull out speaker Cable now you can totally remove back panel.
4) Remove front panel.
5) Remove Ribbon Cable attach to Motherboard on back side LCD.
6) Remove couple screw and Remove Motherboard for this unit.
7) Remove Hard Drive.

8) Connect Hard Drive to PC using 3.5 to 2.5 IDE Adapter.

9) Boot up with Ghost and back up Disk to Image. (Not just Partition whole Epson Disk) (I back up mine to C Drive of my PC and it takes about 1 minute to back it up. Very little data inside.. It was Fat 32 oh.. Also 7mb hidden partition of fat16 and I am not even sure what is inside but hell.. Safe is always better than sorry.)

10) Shot down Computer.
11) Disconnect Epson Hard Drive and connect New Hard Drive.
12) Boot up again with Ghost.
13) Select Restore Disk from Image you made.

14) Set the new partition size to whatever your new hard Drive is.. Mine is 100 GB (95gb)

15) Restore Disk..... (3minute)

Done.. Just put thing back and you are in Business!

Note: If you have 2 3.5 to 2.5 IDE Adapter you can do direct copy to new hard Drive with Ghost.

It work great and recognize all hard disk space.
I have Panasonic DVD & Hard Drive recoder so I was worry.
Because I upgrade hard Drive from 80 to 250 but it only read 80.
But on Epson it recognize new size no problem.

On Epson I use Toshiba 2.5" 100gb 4200 rpm ($ 175)
I had choice between 80gb with 5400 rpm ($160)
and also 60gb with 7200 rpm ($135).

But I decide go bigger. Because I already have 4 of 4gb compact flash card.
and It fills up very quickly. 100 gb will give me some peace.
I use Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II & Canon EOS 20D.

Also I have extra 2 battery for this unit but it goes out so fast.
So I made battery pack. (All part from Radio Shack)
Now I can use this unit with Rechargeble AA Battery and It goes forever.
It help me a lot when I shooting outside.
This unit use 3.7v 2300 mAh Li-Ion battery but notice AC adapter is @ 5V.
So I bought Same Size Head from Radio Shack and also 4 AA Battery Holder.

I made case for 4 AA Battery of NIMH 2000 mAh 1.2V. It is about 4.8V @ 2000mAh x 4 I guess.. Also You can use normal AA battery @ 6V

Both way it work! Make sure leave battery inside so that it can regulate the Voltage.

I decide to call this external charger -_-;;

However I was out for shooting last two day with it and it was Great!!!
I took about 70gb without worry and also some Music while I was Drive.

As I am writing this I am copying picture to Computer. Since I don't worry about battery anymore I use all the function of this wonderful unit.

Before I try to save battery so I never use any other function but Now I finally relize that it have wonderful LCD to view things and delete etc.....

-_-;;

All my worry is gone and HAPPY ^_________^

Battery was always problem before and after.

Kind funny but I feel like it is little faster and last long with new Hard Drive.

I didn't do any extensive test so don't take my word too seriously on above statement. But that is how I felt.

After serious exam I will replay again.

This morning I run simple test with MicroDrive since they eat a lot of battery. Base on simple test with Original Hard Drive and New Hard Drive.

This is what I find out.
I use Hitachi 4gb Microdrive & 80x Compact Flash.

* On Original Battery & Original Hard Drive (Fully Charged)

I could copy two 4gb Microdrive (3.6gb Picture inside) and on third one battery fail.

Twelve of 1gb compact flash. (80x 850mb Picture inside) I could copy no problem. Thirteenth I had problem.

------------------------------

* On Original Battery & 100gb Toshiba Hard Drive (Fully Charged)

I could copy two 4gb Microdrive (3.6gb Picture inside) and on third one battery fail.

Thirteen of 1gb compact flash. (80x) I could copy no problem.

> So I believe Hard Drive Size don't make much difference.

* On Optional 4AA(NIMH 2000 mAh 1.2V) Battery Pack to charging socket & 3.7v 2300 mAh Li-Ion battery inside (All Fully Charged) & 100gb Toshiba Hard Drive.

I could copy Six 4gb Microdrive (3.6gb Picture inside) and on 7th one battery fail.

* On Optional 4AA(NIMH 2000 mAh 1.2V) Battery Pack to charging socket & 3.7v 2300 mAh Li-Ion battery inside (Internal battery not charged) & 100gb Toshiba Hard Drive.

I could copy Three 4gb Microdrive (3.6gb Picture inside) and on 4th one battery fail.

strange Math... But that is outcome so far... May be I need more serious test but I have normal Job to go... ^____^;;

When battery is low MicroDrive making clicking sound.. Which is no good..

Hope it help... Not a Super Series of exam but I did my best as normal user..

Today I am planning to making or Modifying USB Cable so that it can Charge my Epson also... I done it with my iPaq before so I think it is very possible... We will see... USB Charger & Sync cable all in one...

My only plan is to be able to Use and Charge same time while I am in the Car Using USB Charge cable and Car USB DC kit I have from my GPS.

Since Epson use Hard Drive I didn't had plan for this but after I saw Apple IPOT Car charger I think I can manage to do this at home...

I said.. I hope... -_-;;

Sorry about my messy writing and thank you for reading all this..
