I bought a Tamron 28-75mm back in December, the lens was okay apart from the occasional failure in auto focusing.  About a week ago, I was doing my routine cleaning of my equipments and found part of the black coating within the lens (the bit supporting one of the lens elements has gone).  I have used different lense before but never experience such thing.

Yesterday (monday), I went to Tamron"s office in Kowloon Bay to ask for explanation.  The attitude of the "Engineering" wasn"t too polite.  His explanation was an air bubble got trapped within the lens.  He said it doesn"t happen and I just got luck.  He wouldn"t give me a replacement and there are no spare parts to repair it.

Since I have to return to UK on Thursday, I asked him if it is better to repair it in the UK and he said, "What they do is to use a marker to put the colour back on".  I was shocked because it might not be a Canon or Nikon but that is not repair from my point of view.  He also said it will take him 3 MINUTES to replace a lens element!!!!  The thing that made me mad is that he said, "No body tells you to leave HK.  You decide to give up the warranty (in a very rude tone)!!"

Then, a man (about 40) came in and said his 28-200mm (after being repaired) has failed.  The ENGINEERING took the lens, gave it a shake and a SCREW drop from the lens.  After that, I decided I will not let him repair my lens and I will NEVER buy another TAMRON.

I am not saying Tamron is an awful brand, but the construction and the aftersales service leaves a lot to think about.  I don"t know how camera lense are constructed.  But 3 minutes to replace a lens element???  What about the dust/mositure that will be trapped in the lens when he OPENS it in the office?  The 40 old guy"s lens has fungus in the lens after it was repaired.

If you are planning to get the new Tamron (those which are assembled in China), think carefully.  I thought it wouldn"t be a problem, but it proves to be, for me case at least.

As much as we expected perfectly manufactured products, I guess they are almost non-exist due to the cost cutting stragegy being employed these days. Don"t be surprised, or too upset of it was just a minor paint chip inside the lens. It might not make any practical difference. What if I tell you with all my seven Pentax lenses, only one was completely trouble free? All others got replaced, refunded or repaired (by myself) due to varies QC problems out-of-boxes. And all of them were purchased brand new (except one). Their inability to repair properly was also the reason I have invested in camera repairs myself for years.

It is not luck or not, it is the manner to treat or to cheat customer.
Though paint loss is just a very very minor injury, but the technician should be polite throught out the conversation. And shaking a lens so that a screw drop is somewhat stone-age primary testing. Would any Japan technician doing that in front of the cutsomer?!

遇到咁既情況,你自己不妨打封信,然後send去騰龍的日本總部投訴啦!!你都知道...日本人不嬲都係以客為尊,特別係呢類型的大公司。通常日本總部收到客戶的投訴的話,一定要求有關的分區代理馬上跟進,假如有關分區代理稍為有一點鬆懈的話,後果...可大可小!!

以你遇到有關維修人員咁既待客態度,一經日本總部查證,咁香港代理的負責人或者經理就有排煩。

你所講的真是所說的全部????????

3min修理Tamron新鏡可以做得到,因為新設計鏡筒,可以更方便準確放鏡片,免得裝質量會差得太多

40歲男人是一個有經驗的男人,他的鏡頭在2002年修理過,現在都04年2月,無可能保證2年不發生任何東西,當然,他一樣說出最有利一點就是"整在無幾耐就壞",而且最後要出動電腦查鏡資料他才說"電腦真快呀~~~"

最後我會把這段說話直接傳給作天你所收到名片的經理,再傳到日本香港騰龍。

其實Tamron近來的新鏡光學表現真的很不錯, 又新開發了XR技術令鏡頭減磅瘦身, 是我心目中副廠鏡的首選; 若然因代理服務水準問題而令消費者卻步, 實在有點不值! 大話王兄你真的要向上頭反映並盡快改善, 否則愈來愈多攝影人對Tamron失信心, 要平反就難矣!

其實只是客人上到來都很擔心他的鏡頭問題,所以什麼都聽不入耳,只知到"可/不可",我自問每一次對"有保護的客人"都會用最快的方法修理好,而未有零件我也投訴過不只一次,但日本騰龍嚴重缺貨。
作日回答是
"你可以拿回使用到我們有零件為止,上來更換鏡片,一般只須要幾分鐘"
"那麼保養是什麼呀!"
"你買了2個月,我都話可以更換比你但缺貨,而且是你要去外國而放棄更換,這不是保護嗎?"
鏡頭只是外觀問題,對攝影無影響,但幾千元....我都明。

題外話: 分享我用Gitzo的經驗

其實,我都買過Gitzo的ball head,其中有一粒鑼絲有問題,係一粒大粒鑼絲,裝係成日俾手指掂到的地方。

個問題係粒鑼絲裝功不好,個表面俾個鑼絲批得太過火,形成"界"手問題,有幾次重俾佢界到流血,諗住上去代理問下有乜解決方法,點知佢同我講:

1) 個 ball head俾人拆過喎!!
我同佢講個ball head新買的,佢重唔信我,我要求換粒鑼絲o者。

2) 冇一粒鑼絲換,要換要成個part換,重要去外國訂貨,最後當然 $$$...

講都冇人信,換一粒鑼絲要換成 part ,以後我買gitzo都唔會買行貨了。
五十蚊都慳番...

奇怪你們所講的...我的經歷都相反...
T 記和 G 記的新瑞康是我試過服務最好的代理...
T 記起碼整左四五次野,新瑞康就Velbon,Gitzo都整過,不過收$就...一時時,試過支 VELBON 丟了一個螺絲,送去換就收我$135大元!(本身那腳架才600元到,據聞也是"整PART換過"),但整GITZO又吳收我錢...

我試過騰龍的客戶服務,招待我那位哥哥很好人,教我很多東西,又拿新推出的鏡頭給我試玩,當然,走的時候還給我一堆產品目錄.....哈哈!

It seems to be rude not to reply to MR 大話王.  Before I say anything, thank you for your explanation.  If you can pick on the little things as 你所講的真是所說的全部?  Then I can also pick on this - "放棄更換" wasn"t right, "放棄保護" was closer.  Also, putting the conversation in words is more polite than what I heard.

I appreciate your effort in getting spare parts from Japan, and you are not responsible for not getting any deliveries.

About that 40 year old man.  As soon as he showed you the lens, you remembered who the guy was.  What I can conclude is that 1) you have a good memory.  2) you hardly have to repair any lense in 2 years.  Which shows the reliablity of the Tamron products.  Would you please clarify the black screw that dropped from the lens? (it looked as if it came from INSIDE).

I bought a Tamron because I had one before.  I have/had 9 lense and none of them caused me any trouble at all.  After hearing people saying that camera products do fail, I guess I have been very lucky that my lense and camera bodies are still working well.

About that paint job.  Where did the paint chip go???  I guess it is fair to say that the chipping is still inside the lens.  I agree that it doesn"t affect the quality of photography - AS long as the chipping doesn"t attach itself to the middle of the lense element.  Which thankfully has yet to happen.

The warranty card said "INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY", so I guess it is okay to repair it anywhere, right?  Maybe there are spare parts in UK, who knows.  

To 版主, please change the title to "Tamron" for me, or delete this post as you wish.  I don"t want to be sued.  Sorry for the trouble caused.

"paint chip"是否指鏡頭內鏡片邊緣非鏡片的黑色地方??

很多鏡都有這問題...店家解釋,這是組裝鏡片時的針位,無就走運,有亦在所難免....

其實我的意思是"你說去外國修理,我答:他們只會用黑筆同跟你鏡頭清潔或填色,你有保養不如等零件換一片新鏡片吧"
相信我是真心想買了鏡頭的人有最好的服務所說出來的,結果反而令你震驚。

問題經有結果,Salse部門會收回一支全新的T28-75更換

40男人的鏡頭其實是用經驗說出他"講大話",一個修理不久的人不會發毛的,因為我每一次修理後都會作出間單清潔,連發毛(Mould)都會清潔,當然不會對客人說,因為別要收費,也無必要。40男人願意負擔費用修理,你便會知到真假。

Do current SP lenses have more reliable mechanical designs? I ask because I used to have a SP35-105/2.8 (MF) where the zooming mechanism "wobbled" within one year. The problem was serious enough the zooming itself was difficult. At the time I was in Australia and the service center said there was nothing could be done. Then I found out the heavy metal body and glasses were supported by plastic inner mechanisms which caused the problem. I haven"t purchsed any Tamron since. I like the new 17-35/2.8-4 & 28-75/2.8, but I have serious doubt on their built quality.
