Than how about 35/1.4 pre-a in compare with asph? IT seems that the old 35/1.4 is quite soft when wide open.

[Summilux 35mm pre-ASPH and ASPH] If I weren't wrong, 35mm/f1.4 summilux pre-ASPH is actually a quite old optical formula calculated in the late 50' by Dr. Mandler at Leitz Canada, Midland. While wide open, it exhibits obvious aberration which has some sort of soft-focus effect on the picture. Stopping down to f4 or f5.6 delivers normal sharp images. Many leica connoisseurs love this lens because this special effect while wide open, especially for B&W photography.
Scientifically speaking, the summilux 35mm ASPH calculated in 90' at Leica Germany (Solms) leads the pre-ASPH version with a large gap. IMHO, the summilux 35mm ASPH also serves as a better general-purpose lens and can be used with confidence at f1.4. But when you need the special atmosphere created by the summilux 35mm pre-ASPH, the ASPH version just can't do it.

what about the Summilux 50mm ASPH, is it worth to buy? I know many like the summilux 50mm pre-asph a lot, because not many have tried ASPH. But it seems that ASPH is better than Pre-Asph for general and all purposes. |
