A equipment do not make a better photgrapher but a good photgrapher learn to harness the best from his/her equipment ..... instead of spending the money for the camera, spent the time and effort to learn and master all the basics ...... There"s plenty of material to learn in the Library and they are ll for free .....

Recently there are some long zoom DC like Minolta Z1, which cost only 2900 something and equipped with almost all manual feature. This is very useful for learning.
For DSLR, if talking about Nikon, we don"t have much choice at the time being.
Less expensive = D100
Expensive = D1x or the newly release D2H

$15000 (price of DSLR) = $45 (slide cost + developing price) x 333 rolls
333 rolls / 2 rolls per week = 166 weeks
166 weeks / 52 weeks per year = 3 year
I think it is better for you to spend money in taking slide for 3 years to learn how to take photos rather than buying a DSLR. |

And pls remember that your F80 would not become a "rubblish" after 3 years, but if you buy a DSLR now, it would become a "rubblish" after 3 years.
Could you still think about the model number of a DSLR which was released 3 years ago?
I think you would be still happy if you own an SLR which was released 3 years ago, but you would not be happy if you own a DSLR which was released 3 years ago.
Since you are not using the camera very frequently (say more than 10 rolls per week), I don"t recommend you to buy a DSLR in terms of money. |

If you do stick to your logic, I don"t think you"ll be here as you shouldn"t have bought any computer because they would become obsolete after 3 years. I don"t intend to start a flame war but imho your suggestion regarding purchase of more prime lenses is misleading - do you think that one can improve his photo-taking skills by owning more prime lenses?
Back to py4t"s problem about exposure control, the first thing that comes to my mind is an incident meter. On the other hand, digital provides opportunities of instant gratification and lighting/exposure/color adjustment, and thus has an edge over silver halide - perhaps this is the reason why py4t"s friend said "轉用DSLR會令攝影技術進步". If this is the case, a decent DC with manual control should suffice, given that py4t"s favorite subject isn"t action. |

I don"t think a DC/DSLR would become rubbish.
It is just a matter of the resell price when compare to 1st hand market.
If that DC/DSLR just fail after 3 years, it is another matter.
Use DSLR has at least on gain in learning, that is the instant review and histogram comparison. This is very important while learning exposure. Using slide need time to process and **MUST NOT** faster than review in the LCD.
If one want to learn fast, just shoot more, read more and compare more. Practise make perfect and DC/DSLR is suitable for thousand shoots per day....

其實好多人買 DC/DSLR 都係為 o左 無咁 out, 個個 friend 都用數位, 一看齊去影相人地即晚就 send 到相俾你睇, 自己仲要等, 感覺又真係怪怪地o既, 不過諗深一層, 係睇你自己放唔放得開
最怕見到次次有人問買 DSLR 好唔好, 總有人建議話用舊錢買 SLR 加多幾支鏡仲好, 其實慳得果5, 6千可以買到幾到支似樣 o既 鏡?
我一真認為如果接受到 DSLR o既 質素又 afford 得起的話, 買 DSLR 有乜所謂 |

買dslr又要買super super super wide lens先得.就算副廠都不便宜.一闊三大呀!拍攝量少又要求質素的話.自己計過數先好買.唔止忍受數碼,還要忍受副廠鏡頭. |

始終, 唔買DSLR/DC既人都係當部機係相機, 而唔係菲林.
我當DC/DSLR係菲林, 只係一次過比幾百筒菲林錢, 當預早買唔過期菲林,
咁自然就唔會覺得DC/DSLR係貴.

小弟暫無本事買DSLR, 本應沒什資格在此搭訕.
不過我睇 S2 Pro 好適合你.
價錢(相對)唔貴之余仲可以沿用 nikon 鏡群.
既然有F80, 就唔使重覆SLR.
好肯定DC會令一個"有心拍好相"的人進步, 因為try-&-error的時間大為減少.
其實作品優劣係非常主觀, DC至少可以令"曝光掌握不大好"問題改善.
