prime lenses is more easy to design and produce than prime lenses. Wide angle for RF is more easy to design and produce than wide angle for SLR. Nikon, Contax, Zeiss........ are all good company in photography.
If the above points are correct, will you expect a wide zoon for slr has better quality than a wide prime lenses for rf?
Just depends how much you want to give to get the better quality. |

I used to have both lenses. The advantage of the AFS Nikkor is of cause its convinence and the flexible zoom range. However, it is not in the same league of the G21 in terms of optical quality. The biogon is really legendary and beats every lens in this focal length except the Hassy SWC and its cousin Contax C/Y distagon 21/2.8. Frankly speaking, the distortion of AFS 17-35 makes many photos unacceptable, while the biogon is distortion free. I advice you to get one for travel, however, please beware that you may buy the whole G system after you recieve the stuuning photos produced by the G21, and you may start to sell your existing Nikon system, just like what I did. agree with Tam.
as a contax user, i think that G21 is a good bargain, I would say it is cheap with regards to its superb performance. Both D21/2.8 & SWC are relatively expensive and heavier. HOWEVER, I strongly advise you find some sildes or photos taken with G21 before you buy it. You better have a rough idea about G lenses" character in color rendition before you buy it. See if it suits your taste. It is a matter of personal taste as well as optical quality.

Prime lens is always better than zoom lens, especially when the prime lens is designed for RF. |

Chemistry talks about 17~35 bor. We have H16 and B21 now. Does anyone post some photos taken with Planar 35/2? Planar is an appealing design from CZ. Hehe...
BTW, where is chemistry?

H16 pix were taken in West Lake and Wu Town. jsklee, I never use ND filter. Dark corners can be concealed if pix are carefully composed. Sometimes, dark corners really enhance the effects given out. I terms of picture quality, I think H16 can beat B21 comfortably. However, B21 is much much more convenient to be used. |
