105 mm f/2.8 vs 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR (4 messages) ellakari wrote: > Thinking to buy one of those to macros: > > Nikon Telephoto AF Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D or > Telephoto AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR > > Is the VR worth the money? I was about to buy the original 105 micro when Nikon announced the new VR version, so I waited to get the new one and I've not been disappointed. Apart from the obvious VR, the other major difference is in the use of the newly developed Nano-crystal coating on the back element to cut down on internal reflections from the sensor. I have posted these before, but in case you didn't see them, here are a few shots from the new VR version of the lens ... http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1030&thread=18248140 |

Nikkor Macro 200mm f4 vs new Macro 105mm 2.8 - VR Ultra77 - 18 hours ago Hi all, This is my first post in this group. I have a Nikon D2Hs and I am considering the current model Nikkor Macro 200mm - f4 D lens. Can some please post some examples and do you think it is worth waiting for a possible VR version like the new Nikkor Macro 105mm -f2.8 - VR If I went for the new Macro 105mm I would get f2.8 over f4 and also VR and also AF-S. Not that most use A.F. for macro work. I could use a T.C. for more reach if needed I guess but would prefer not to. Do you all think the picture quality is as good as I have read great things about the Macro 200mm - f4. Do you still think the 200mm Macro f4 is a good but or is it outdated? http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1030&thread=18246583 |

105mm VR portraits, vs other 105mm's Again my simple 'Julian comparison'. All shot at ISO200, and SB-800 with Gary Fong. I don't have the 105mm DC, so you have to wait for Randy's more precise test. http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=70297幾位的討論有人認為105mm f2.5對人像膚色的表現很好 |

High CA with 105VR at Infinity Focus??? I shot an antenna about 30 min before sunset tonight (at infinity focus) with the new 105VR lens, at full stops, from f2.8 to f16. ALL of the shots had very high CA/blue fringing. I shot the same pics, at the same apertures, with my 70-200mm VR lens and got zero CA. Is there a problem with this 105VR Lens? (There's also about 15 medium sized dust particles within the lens interior... don't know if this will affect this???) I'm now on my third sample of this lens, and thought that I was finally happy until I noticed this CA :( Thanks! http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=18270737 |

It's definitely CA/Blue-Fringing. (Unfortunately, I have no way to post a sample photo.) When I took the same shots with my 70-200VR lens, there was absolutely ZERO CA/BF. So it has nothing to do with the sensor. I just want to make sure that this CA is common to other 105VR lenses, and not just my sample. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=18277631Thanks for the help! |

Re: Primes and Zooms Posted by wenpinow [CLICK FOR PROFILE] Date/Time 3:53:06 PM, Wednesday, May 03, 2006 (GMT) Picked up on this week to test and I know I am not returning it! Wow! Nice sharpness & creamy bokeh. PLUS the AFS & VR. Only downside is the variable apperture f/2.8-f/3 depending on how close you are focusing. Tested the lens on a D2hs and also mounted with the TC14 just for kicks. This will be added to our wedding lens kit for its macro abilities, decent sharpness wide open, AFS, VR, ability to mount with TC14/17/20. Did I say I am IMPRESSED with this lens? I would rank this up there with my 200VR & 70-200VR. Enjoy the pixs, click you can see the camera & lens settings if you follow the links. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=18290550Re: Primes and Zooms Posted by wenpinow [CLICK FOR PROFILE] Date/Time 3:53:31 AM, Thursday, May 04, 2006 (GMT) Pix 1 - 105mm 1/125 f/8 iso800 d2hs 105 VR (handheld) Macro shot of the anther (about the size of a grain of rice) of a flower. Minimum DOF to get anything in focus while using this as a macro lens. Shooting wide open for anything else produces sharp images and creamy bokeh (much similiar to the 85 1.4, 70-200 VR & 200VR). I am certain when mounted on a tripod the results will be acceptable too. Pix 2 - 150mm 1/50 f/11 iso800 d2hs 105VR with TC14 (handheld) Trying for a macro shot coupled with a TC14. Now I am trying to see how low I can push the shutter speed before the VR2 fails. Still very impressed. Pix 3 - 150mm 1/45 f/4 iso400 d2hs 105VR with TC14 (handheld) The whole point this image was to illustrate IMHO how far the 105 VR can be pushed to its limits. Mounted to the TC14, shot wide open at a low shutter speed. Wow! Pix 4 - 100% crop of Pix 3 Only limited by the resolution of the D2hs. May try this again with the less forgiving D2x sometime this weekend. Will try the TC17 & TC20 too. All signs so far point to another gem from Nikon engineers. =) http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1030&message=18298783 |
