Hope this pic posts ok Example: I was standing on a chair with my SB600 in my left hand and my D70/105vr (AF-C) in my right hand. The camera lens was about 2 or 3 inches away from the bug. I did not sharpen the pic as much as I could have. Resized to server's limit of pics needing to be less than 150k http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1030&thread=18143445 |

As for the new 105mm VR, not only does it do macro work, but also it is AF-S, and has VR. It may be too sharp for some portrait work, but if you like extra-sharp images, you probably will not go wrong. It's main design is not aimed at portraiture; it is aimed at macro to middle distance. I have not seen any shots at infinity to tell you how sharp it is out there, or how fast the motor focuses at infinity, despite being geared for close-up work. You can use it for hard-to-focus fast moving subjects because of the AF-S, and you can use it in low light handheld for static subjects because of the VR II. These are unique qualities, but may not be what you need if you decide to use it for straight potraiture. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1030&thread=18175876 |

REALLY love the 105 Micro VR, but... (7 messages) ...I obviously need some practice with this. It always amazes me to see some of the great macro work done by Tod (tao.design) and others here. I guess I have a long way to go before I can even begin to come away with the compeling images I have seen from the likes of Todd, et al. Still, I am going to have a lot of fun working at it. Here are a few samples from today, though only one is could really be considered "macro": One: 1/200 sec, f/3.3, ISO 100 Two: 1/320 sec, f/2.8, ISO 100 Three: 1/80 sec, f/5, ISO 100 http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1021&thread=18200825 |

Images from PMA 2006 Hey everyone- We had a very long day at PMA today, but here are some images you might enjoy. We were able to use the new 105mm macro for some test shots. I think this lens is quite nice. Also some shots from the Nikonians booth, where Mr. Rich Butkus was our winner of a Markins M-10 Ballhead! To see the photos, click to continue reading...
