Hi, I'm going for vacation during the Chinese New Year holidays.  In order to travel light, I'd load
print films into a Konica Lexio 70 (3.4-7.9).  In the past, I used Fuji Superia 200 for this camera
& the result was OK.

This time I'd like to try ISO 400 film (I've never tried this speed of film before), like Fuji Xtra-400
and Fuji NPH 400.  However, from Wing Shing, a roll of Xtra 400 is only $16 while it's $36 for NPH.

Below my questions are:

1.  why is NPH so expensive? much expensive than Reala 100 & other print films.  Performance-wise, is it
really outstanding, in terms of sharpness, color balance etc?

2.  from Fuji's website I know that NPH is good for wedding photo & the cotrast is low.  However, is it
an all purpose film...for outdoor photo as well?

3.  what is the performance of Xtra-400?

4.  as the camera I'll bring is only  a compact camera, is it worth paying so high price to buy NPH?

5.  any comments of Xtra 400 compared to Superia 200?

Thx!

I am not a frequent user of NPH but have recently shot a few rolls during Winter Expo. I have not used X-tra before/

>>>>really outstanding, in terms of sharpness, color balance etc?

It's amazing considering it is a 400 film. Color is quite natural but whether you like it is a subjective thing. But at least you would not get weird colors. However, it seems the red color has some problems. Not sure if it is because of FDI that printed it.

>>>>>the cotrast is low. However, is it

All purpose? Do you think there is an all purpose film?? A low contrast film usually does better on a sunny day. As a "400" film, it's convenient. (Many web comments suggest it to be rated 320)

>>>>only a compact camera, is it worth paying so high price to buy NPH?
Then buy a roll of NPH and try Fuji-Xtra for the rest since many people in this forum have good comments on it.
Even as a compact camera, why should you buy inferior films if you can afford it and like it.

if u want relative saturated color and fine grain, use K160VC,
it will yield good result even using the FuJi lab,
P.S. Kodak very often has promotion of 160VC, namely, coupons for direct print up to 20x30, costing u about $68 only, it's good bargain!!..
