Re: Considering a D2X to substitute my D200... What about noise? Wheely - 2 months ago I agonized over this as well when I found my D200 has long banding. I did a fair bit of research and came to the following conclusions. The D200 has better noise characteristsics that the D2X but that the D2X isn't that bad. The D2X has better white balance than the D200 but the D200 is pretty damn good. In nearly every other respect, the D200 and the D2X are just fine cameras with not too much between them. For me the choice ended up like this. D2X - 100% viewfinder coverage, HSC mode at 8fps BUT no flash commander, big and heavy and expensive. D200 - Remote flash commander, much cheaper, I already have it BUT not 100% viewfinder coverage. I'm sure there are other differences that appeal to different people but although I'd really love to have 100% viewfinder coverage I felt that without flash commander I'd end up first with a cord, then an SU-800 and then another SB800 just to get the flash nice on the D2X. Then, while out taking shots of birds I was asked by someone if I could take a shot of them and suddenly I had a use for the D200 pop up flash as my SB800 was safely at home.
